The
"Alcazar" (Arab name for palace/castle), is the oldest monument of
Jerez, (XII century). There are a mosque with its minaret , Arab baths, a baroque palace (XVIII century), with a charming ancient drugstore on its second floor, an oil mill and beautiful gardens. Sometimes, the palace is occupied with temporary exhibitions.
Surrounding the "Alcazar" there is a
very nice walk called "Alameda Vieja", (Old walk of the poplar trees),
with magnificent views over the Cathedral and the old Jerez. A very
recommendable visit.
