Cadiz, founded by the Phoenicians 1,000 years B.C., is a cosmopolitan city, which served as a model for other cities of Hispanic America, as La Havana. Represents the sea and therefore, the trade, the most important period was the eighteenth century when Cadiz was thet port for trade with the Spanish colonies in America. Another important event in the history of Cadiz was the promulgation of the Constitution of 1,812 during the siege of the city by the troops of Napoleon. Cadiz is the counterpoint of Jerez, Jerez is if the land is the sea Cadiz, if agriculture is Jerez, Cadiz is trade, if Jerez is the aristocratic tradition, Cadiz is liberalism. Both cities form a symbiosis as the different faces of the same coin.
